  • 1" MMA Mats are very easy to clean and maintain. These foam floor tiles are constructed of durable closed cell EVA foam. This means that no liquids can penetrate the surface of the tiles.
  • If the interlocking foam tiles do get something spilled on them or appear dirty, all they need is a quick wipe with a damp cloth and your soft tiles will look like new.

Installing these interlocking tiles is very simple and usually done by the consumer. Typical installation of these tiles is as follows:
  1. First, clean your subfloor so it is free of all dirt, grease, or debris.
  2. Start in one corner of the room with a corner tile and add border tiles outward along the adjacent walls. Add center, corner, and border tiles where you see fit.
  3. When coming up to an opposite wall, make sure you cut the tiles to fit the area leaving a gap that’s roughly the thickness of the tiles being used to account for expansion and contraction of the floor tiles in varied temperature ranges.
Note: Note: When piecing interlocking tiles together, adhesives aren’t usually needed since the weight of the product is usually enough to keep the floor tiles from moving. However, if you do experience movement and would like to ensure that the tiles do not slide at all, you can use some double-sided tape or mat tape around the perimeter of the installation to prevent any movement.

Can you use these for wrestling mats? Is it possible to take a shot on these?
Anonymous
Our 1" MMA Mats can be used for some wrestling moves. Since these are tiles, there is a potential for them to separate with some moves. A shot will not be move that could be done on these tiles without a high probability of separating. For wrestling, we do offer a wide range of mats that would handle this move and our two most popular mats are our Home Wrestling Mats and our Deluxe Home Wrestling Mats.
I live in an upper floor apartment and would like to exercise without bothering my downstairs neighbor. I want to jump rope and do exercises like jumping jacks, etc. The floor is already covered with a thin 1/4" carpet. Can you recommend a product that I can lay over the existing carpet that would eliminate or reduce any noise as to not bother my neighbor below? Thank you.
MIKE
Our 1" MMA Mats are very shock absorbent, but would not be appropriate for the types of exercises you are wanting to do. For those exercises, we would recommend using one of our rubber mats. The mats that would work the best would be our 1/2" Mega Mats or our 3/4" Extreme Mats. Both will help to absorb the noise created when you are doing your jump training and will also provide you with optimal shock absorbency.
Are these a good choice for a home gym that will be used for cardio equipment, light weights, yoga, and aerobics?
Sarah
Our 1" MMA Mats can be used in your home gym under equipment, for light weights, yoga, and aerobics. Under the equipment, you may see some indentations. These can be mitigated by the use of our furniture sliders. For some aerobic exercises, you may get some movement. To help reduce this, we recommend the use of some double sided tape.
My neighbor's kid (2 years old and thin) is constantly running and jumping upstairs. I live downstairs and can't bear with those noises on an everyday basis. Can your MMA mats significantly reduce the noise from that kind of running and jumping? If it does I have to buy some for them.
Anonymous
Our 1" MMA Mats are very thick and shock absorbing and will help to reduce the noise from the upstairs apartment.
We'd like to use these first as play mat for baby. Does it slip easily if just placed on carpet? How about on tile- how slippery is it? Once baby outgrows it, husband would like to use for bjj: do the tiles stay together well enough to handle jiu jitsu? Thanks!
MM
Our 1' MMA mats are very slip resistant over carpet and tile. These tiles will work great as a play mat for your baby and were specifically made for BJJ, jiu-jitsu, and other martial arts. So no need to worry about the tiles coming apart or notwithstanding the intense nature of the workouts.
My daughter is in gymnastics. Would this flooring work for practicing her floor routines?
Anonymous
Our 1" MMA Mats would work to help your daughter practice her gymnastics. We do offer a wide range of Home Cheer Mats that are better suited for this purpose. You can find these mats on our foam mats page.
How well do these work installed on top of carpet? The area I want to use is carpeted and don't really want to pull it up.
Jack
Our 1" MMA Mats work well over commercial grade low pile carpet. Over high pile carpet, the tiles may separate a bit which may cause a tripping hazard; This is due to the carpet pad being depressed under the carpet.
I'd like to put this floor in a room in my basement, but the room is 14' 1" x 12' 10". Is it possible to cut these tiles to fit and still be able to lock them together properly?
Nick
Our 1" MMA Mats can be cut easily to fit your room with a sharp utility knife and straight edge. These tiles will still interlock with each other since you are cutting the side(s) that will go along the wall.
What kind of cleaning products are recommended for this?
Anonymous
We recommend using a mild soap and water solution for stuck on stains with a rag or synthetic mop and a broom for any large debris.
I'm looking for a mat that I can block knitting projects on. This would involve pinning and stretching a damp sweater on to a mat to shape it. There are smaller, but similar, foam interlocking mats sold in knitting stores, so I thought this would be a great larger alternative that would also disassemble for easy storage after use. Anyone know if your mats are the same material as the ones sold in knitting stores?
Anonymous
Our 1" MMA Mats can be used as a block for knitting products and has been successfully by many of our customers.
Hello I want to put these under a putting green I have. I was going to use double sided carpet tape to adhere the green to the tiles. Do you think this might work? I noticed a few reviews stated these are slippery.
Tom
You can adhere putting green turf to our 1" MMA Mats with double sided tape. Our double sided tape is very strong and would bind tightly.
I’m interested in the 1” MMA mats for my fitness room. I do a variety of exercises (mostly fitness videos) including plyometrics (lots of jumping), aerobics, calisthenics (jumping jacks, etc.), yoga, weight lifting, pilates, etc. Are these appropriate for that?
Anonymous
Our 1" MMA Mats are ideal for high impact workouts but are not the best for certain side-to-side movements. If you do these types of exercises on these tiles, we recommend using double sided tape to keep the tiles together. The tape would go under the tiles and keep the tiles from separating.
If I purchase enough to make a 9'10" square, do they automatically ship with the correct assortment of beveled edges and corners to trim all of the edges?
Matt
When you order our 1" MMA Mats, each tile will come with removable edge pieces. These attached edge pieces are not beveled. For the beveled corners and borders, you will need to purchase them separately. If you need assistance purchasing these, please feel free to contact one of our Flooring Heroes via phone, chat or email.
I have to store these mats in an attic that can reach 120F+ during a remodel. Will the heat damage or melt them?
Jen
120+ degree heat will not damage or melt our 1" MMA Mats.
Are the MMA mats ok for bare feet? Which would be better, the MMA mats or the Tatami mats? I do martial arts with bare feet, frequently sliding, pivoting, etc. Which would be best for bare feet? Thank you!
Lynn
It is ok to have bare feet on our MMA Mats. A lot of our customers like the texture of the Tatami Tiles versus the MMA mats due to fact that the pattern minimizes rug burns. But other than that, they are both equally great with bare feet.
Will these "slide" on hard wood floors? Would rollup mats work better? These will be used primarily for martial arts with stand up sparing and ground grappling applications as well as yoga. We are looking to cover a 10x10 area. Thanks, Sue.
Anonymous
There is a possibility that our 1" MMA Mats will slide on hardwood floors when not installing a whole room installation. To prevent this, we recommend using double-sided tape or a rug pad to keep them in place.
Can these mats be used outdoors?
Anonymous
Our 1" MMA Mats can be used outdoors and have. Since these tiles are made from foam, there is potential for the tiles to degrade over time in the elements. Also, since these tiles are not UV stable, they will fade in direct sunlight. Since they are interlocking tiles, when a tile does become damaged, you can easily replace it with a new one.
Did you test for formamide in your EVA foam product?
Paul
Our 1" MMA Mats are tested for formamide and are formamide free. To get the testing for this and all of our other testing, please feel free to reach out to one of our Flooring Heroes via phone, chat, or email.
What would be the reasons for choosing either 2x2 tiles or 3x3 tiles.
Steve
There is no real advantage to choosing one tile size versus the other in our 1" MMA Mats. For smaller spaces, using our 2' x 2' tiles is more ideal. For larger spaces, our 3' x 3' tiles are typically desired since it will help to reduce the amount of time it takes to install your new floor.
I noticed the feedback for aerobics use. Would this be a good solution for HIIT workouts, CrossFit, P90X3?
Our 1" MMA Mats are great for HIIT workouts, some CrossFit, and P90X. When installing these as a full floor, they will not move when worked out on and will provide you with ample shock absorbency. When installed as a mat, these mats do have the potential to move around when performing certain moves. To prevent this from happening, we recommend using some double-sided tape under the tiles.
Will wearing athletic or crosstraining shoes on these mats damage them? Or do you need to be barefoot while on them?
You can wear shoes on our MMA Mats without damaging them. You will want to make sure that any shoes that you do wear don't have any spikes or other sharp objects on them. Also, we recommend not wearing high heels on our foam tiles as they will leave impressions in the tiles and could potentially damage the tiles.
How do I remove the slippery residue off of these mats, so it doesn't rub off on my hardwood floors and make them slippery too?
There is no way to remove the residue off our MMA Mats, as this is the releasing agent used to remove the tiles from the mold. This agent does dissipate over time, but there is no cleaner that we can use to get rid of the residue at this point in time. To ensure that the residue doesn't get onto your other flooring surfaces, we recommend placing a plastic sheet under the tiles. This will ensure that your flooring is properly protected from the releasing agent.
Rubber and synthetic rubber can ruin luxury vinyl plank flooring. Does this EVA Rubber have any natural or synthetic rubber in it? Do you know if this EVA rubber reacts with luxury vinyl flooring?
Our 1" MMA Mats are made from EVA foam and contain no rubber in them, so these tiles will not react with luxury vinyl flooring.
Why does the calculator overestimate so much? For a 12'x14' area with 3'x3' tiles, I would expect it to be very close to 4'x5' tiles (=20) without overage. Instead, you recommend 25 tiles. Plus, overage adds 2 more tiles. What's going on here?
Bobby
This is a great question. So what most people don't realize about our interlocking flooring is that you will lose some of the actual square footage due to the tiles overlapping at the place where they interlock. Depending on the tile, this could be a small amount or a large amount. For our MMA Mats, you lose about a half-inch when these tiles interlock. So the amount of square footage that is covered by the tile when interlocked and the edging removed is approximately 8.78 square feet. Now, if you are trying to cover a whole room wall to wall, we recommend a little more flooring than is needed since you will need to cut the flooring to fit the space. Now, if you aren't looking to fill the whole room, you can always order less, but for most spaces, this would be more like a mat than a full room floor as there will be, in most instances, large gaps between the flooring surface and the walls.
I already have 80 square feet of 2' by 2' puzzle mats. I was wondering if I got 3' by 3' if I could connect the two styles.
Matf
Our 2' x 2' and 3' x 3' MMA Mats do not interlock with each other.
Could this matt be used over radiant heated floors?
Marie
Our MMA mats can be used on top of any floor with an underlying radiant heat source.
I am using this for an indoor gym for preschool aged children. Do you have any stats or certifications regarding fall height?
Steve
Our 1" MMA Mats are not fall height rated. They do help to cushion falls but are not tested to the standards needed for fall height certification.
What adhesive should be applied to glue this EVA foam rubber to the bare wooden floor?
lurking
You can use our 5900 Series adhesive to glue our 1" MMA Mats to a wooden floor or any pressure sensitive adhesive.
Is it ok to use it as a playground for 6 months old babies?
Paul
Our 1" MMA Mas can be used a playground flooring for a 6-month-old baby. These tiles are tested on a regular basis and are safe. They will also provide ample shock absorption while the baby is at play.
We would like to use these 1" mat for baby protection on top of the granite in front of our fireplace, will the flames/fireplace damage or melt the foam?
Anonymous
Our 1" MMA Mats and all of our foam tiles will melt if placed in or near extreme heat. These tiles have been placed in front of fireplaces with ease and do not melt in those conditions.
Does the MMA 1" mat come in a 3'x3'?
Kristen
Our 1" MMA Mats do come in 2' x 2' tiles and 3' x 3' tiles.
So I bought these mats for a section of my garage around my punching bag but found that they slide around now when I'm hitting the bag, do you have any type of under sheet of grippy rubber to prevent slipping?
Brenden Batista
If you have movement with our 1" MMA Mats, we recommend placing some double-sided tape underneath the tiles to help keep them in place.
Do the mats slide on carpet? If so, what can I use to secure its grip to the floor?
niko
Our MMA Mats, under normal use, typically do not slip when placed over carpet. If during your workout, they were to move, we do recommend placing some double-sided tape under the tiles. This will help to keep them in place.
Can this be installed on an uneven concrete floor? We are converting our garage into a playroom. We want to find something that can hold up to heavy use from young kids but can also cover over the concrete which has some spalling and pitting.
Our 1" MMA Mats can be installed over floors that aren't perfect. As long as the cracks and pits aren't too large, these tiles will go over them with ease. If the cracks are pretty large, you run the risk of the tiles becoming damage due to use. In those instances, we would recommend repairing the concrete before installing our tiles.
I grapple on these mats occasionally with friends. What's the recommended disinfectant solution for these mats? Will 1:100 bleach solution be too corrosive for these mats?
Jeremy
Our Gym Floor Cleaner/Disinfectant would be the best option for disinfecting these mats, but you can use Lysol wipes or diluted bleach to clean these mats. You will want to follow the proper dilution instructions on the bleach bottle to properly disinfect the our 1" MMA Mats.
Does this contain formaldehyde?
Formaldehyde is not used in the making of our 1" MMA Mats or any of our foam tiles. Formamide can be used in the making of foam tiles and is typically confused with formaldehyde. Our foam tiles are tested regularly, and our 1" MMA Mats and all of our other foam tiles don't contain this substance or any other hazardous chemicals or allergens. If you would like a copy of our testing, please feel free to click the kid-safe icon on the product page, or you can reach out to one of our Flooring Heroes via phone, email, or chat for a copy.
I need something that will be good to stand on while working at a tall table. Would this product provide that cushion? Be anti-fatigue?
Gloria
Our 1" MMA Mats can be used as ergonomic flooring in trade show booths, at cash registers, and much more. These tiles are the perfect custom anti-fatigue mats/floors.
We are looking to pad walls in our exercise room, only need 3 ft tall, can we use the 3-foot floor tiles?
Liz
You can use our 1" MMA Mats as wall padding in your exercise room. If you want something that will give you proper protection, we do offer wall pads that are 3' in size. You can find all the different types of wall pads on our wall padding page.
What is the surface like—how much texture is there? I will be doing karate and don’t want to slip.
Sarah C.
The surface of the 1" MMA Mat is textured to provide added grip when used for martial arts and other activities and is not slippery when dry. Do not practice on mats after cleaning until they have completely dried and clean any surface moisture (such as liquid spills or sweat) with a dry towel before continuing to practice.
Are these mats good choice for home gym on basement concrete floor? Are they slippery? If the area is open and I only want to setup part of the area, can these be hold still and not moving around? Can these mats stand some (not intensive) burpees and jumping w/o separation and damage?
Our MMA mats are great on concrete surfaces and are not slippery. The larger the covered area the better they will stay together when used for vigorous exercise. The more vigorous the exercise you may want to explore some of our rubber flooring options.
Can you put this on a wood floor to block the noise from jumping traveling downstairs to the apartment below?
Yes, our MMA mats are great at dampening the sound from one floor to another.
I need something for 56 year old knees and joint for HIIT, Tabata and other aerobic/cardio activity. Is this it?! Thanks
Debra L MacLean
Our 1" MMA mats are great for HIIT workouts and help absorb some of the impact you might experience while doing these workouts. To ensure that the mats stay together during a lot of lateral movements, make sure to have enough mats connected. The more mats pieces there are, the more stable their configuration!
I plan on using these for Training on the Muay Thai bag. Will they hold up to twisting and turning.
james webb
Yes, the MMA will hold up to twisting underfoot when practicing martial arts with bare feet. Under some shoes the twisting and turning might distort the mats, but the texture of these foam tiles are designed to allow twisting and turning without losing traction when you need it most.
I am in a martial arts class. I am looking to buy mats that I can put in my basement so I can practice rolls and the take downs at home. Are the 1 inch mats like the mats in martial arts studios? I want to make sure they are soft enough that I can practice like I am in the studio.
Maria Howard
Yes, our 1" MMA mats are like those you would find in a professional studio or dojo. They are made with very thick EVA foam that prevents impact on hard surfaces. However, every martial arts facility is different and some will add extra padding under their floors as well, like a carpet padding. If you wanted to step up to the next level of padding you could check out our Home Wrestling Mats which also provide a significant level of protection.
How to I calculate edging for six 2x2 tiles setup as a 4' x 6' area?
Will
Each piece of tile comes with two edges attached, as long as you are making a square or rectangle configuration of at least four tiles you will always have enough edges delivered with your order.
Can the 1" MMA mats be put on a platform bed with multiple blankets on top for a person with a really bad back issue who can not sleep on a mattress? Is it safe to breathe in the odor from the mats night after night while sleeping? Thank you.
Our 1" MMA Mats can be used as mattress of sorts and have. They are hard, so if you are looking for a hard mattress, they will work as a good alternative and one that can be easily moved. These foam tiles are non-toxic, so you won't have to worry about breathing in anything toxic.
I'm looking for something to go over hardwood flooring for a range of workouts from kickboxing and MMA to cardio and battle ropes. Will these be soft enough to do ground exercises without pain (sit ups, yoga, etc.) but also sturdy enough to move on?
L
Our 1" MMA Mats are soft enough to be used for ground exercises. They provide plenty of cushioning, making this product an excellent choice for sit-ups and yoga. For kickboxing, MMA, and cardio, you may get some movement. To help reduce this, we recommend the use of some double-sided tape.
Am looking for edging that ramps up so people don't trip on edge, is there an accessory for an angled edge?
Craig
Our 1"MMA Mats have Beveled Edge pieces that can be found in the accessories section of this products page. These edges will help alleviate any tripping that a hard lip would cause.
I understand the top side has a pattern design on it. I was wondering if the bottom side also has the pattern or is it just smooth?
Christina A Nguyen
The bottom of our 1" MMA Mats is the same as the top. These are reversible tiles so that each side can be used as the flooring surface.

  Great Martial Arts Flooring
Verified Purchase
Self-installed in martial arts dojang
Don Gookin from Pleasant Hill, IA wrote...
I ordered the 1″ MMA tiles for our Tae Kwon Do school. I placed my order late at night and was surprised to see that they had already been shipped early the next morning. The tiles themselves are great; durable, easy to clean, and look great. Installation was also very easy, it only took about 2-3 hours to install over 1200 s.f. of flooring, with 4 people working on it. We are holding classes on the flooring four nights per week, and so far it is holding up beautifully. Highly recommended!

  Perfect for Home BJJ workouts
Self-installed in Home gym
Mike from Alexandria, Va wrote...
I started BJJ in January and began searching for some type of mat for home workout. Both the reasonable price and the size of the mats made them perfect for me. The 2'x2' size is easier to store than standard 3' mats. They also lock together very tight and even though I put them together and take them apart 2-3 times a week are still holding up well. I have reccomended them to all of my friends I train with.
